Hurgus

Hurgus is a recurring character in the Scrimmy Bingus franchise. He is one of the most frequently appearing characters, behind only Scrimmy, the Bingus, Bingo, and Pelb.

Gameplay[]

While Hurgus may appear frequently, he is not always a playable Brongus. He often goes back and forth from being playable to a background character, but in all appearances he usually possesses the same movesets and abilities. He is capable of Crungus, Boge, and Scrappy Dungers. His main skill is Fingies, and he has a flair for the mechanical side of things. While he has good Horsepower, it is known to be severely effected by a Critarunga!/Stupegungled combo attack, able to be performed by the Brongus Bippo. This occurs before Hurgus becomes a main hero character in the third Scrimmy Bingus game.

Fictional Character Biography[]

Hurgus

Hurgus' second form.

Hurgus is introduced in the Bripple Phase of the original Scrimmy Bingus game. There, he is found in a tavern and appears as a normal guy, though later he is revealed to be a bounty hunter/anti-hero who attacks the party, having been hired by Spingi to take the Alphon from Scrimmy. In this attack, he will be wearing Sunglasses and gain the Crogensploogial effect. During the fight, Hurgus remains friendly towards the adventurers and only attacks because he is in need of the money. If the player weakens him severely, he will let Scrimmy and the party go, saying he doesn't wish for them to be long-term enemies.

In the Scrimmy Bingus II: The Crungy Spingus Returns, Hurgus acts as a side-villain in one of the world maps, who the player must chase throughout the platforming levels. Once caught, Hurgus will quickly surrender.

In Scrimmy Bingus III: The Hotpocket of Croungus, Hurgus meets the party in the Dorgo Dimension and rescues them from an encounter. He then offers to assist the party in their quest to find the Hotpocket of Croungus, and Scrimmy agrees. While the party is at first distrustful of him (Bippo especially), he eventually earns their trust through brave actions and by saving Master Chuk's life. Despite this, he and Pelb remain angry with each other and acts as rivals throughout the entire journey. This rivalry continues throughout the entire franchise. At the end of the game, Scrimmy announces that Hurgus has proved himself and invites him to be a full member of the Brongi party, to which he agrees.

In Scrimmy Bingus 4: The Good Boy Scrumpus, Hurgus is seen enjoying his life as a new member of the Brongi adventuring party. He assists the party in finding the Nailbiter, and also helps train Scrumpus in some physical combat and teaches him a few mechanical tricks. This installment begins the trend of showing Hurgus as oddly protective over weaker folk, as he is very concerned for Scrumpus' safety.

In Scrimmy Bingus and the Dark Descent, Hurgus' 1800's Alternate Variant appears as an ally to Scrimmy, gifting him with some weapons and assisting him in a few encounters. In Scrimmy Bingus and the Newark Horror, Hurgus is one of the few playable character options given, though he does not appear until the end if the player does not choose him.

Hurgus appears in TimothyPlus as both a background character in some of the alternate-perspective moments, and also as a cameo in the post credits scene of the game, where he is seen buying inventions from TimothyPlus and beginning their longtime friendship.

Hurgus is mostly absent for Scrimmy Bingus 64, though he appears towards the end to help the party in their battle against Scrogan, along with some powerful weapons invented by TimothyPlus. He is the one who suggests meeting up with TimothyPlus in Newark, New Jersey to acquire more special inventions. This leads into Scrimmy Bingus: The Price of a Soul, where it is revealed that TimothyPlus has been kidnapped. Like with Scrumpus, Hurgus is seen very concerned for him and appears fond of TimothyPlus. He separates with the party early on in the game to go attempt to rescue him alone, and it is later revealed that he adopted the form of Broogus, the third Crodon.

This culminates in Scrimmy Bingus TEN, where Hurgus' Broogus form is one of the main villains of the game. Before he is banished at the game's climax, Broogus reveals himself to be Hurgus, and then joins the party in the defeat of the Crodon. At the end, he decides to join TimothyPlus in Newark as his research assistant and help him with his inventions.

Appearance and Characteristics[]

Hurgus has some of the most varied appearances in the game, adopting more than 5 forms at different times. He begins the game as a short, stocky humanoid with blond hair, though in his Cool form his hair is spiked and he can be seen wearing sunglasses. He also has the Broogus form, in which his eyes are blueish-grey. He also appears as more grown up after the first ten Scrimmy Bingus games, though in a couple appearances his sprite reverts back to the younger version. In Scrimmy Bingus: Ultimate, he gets an updated appearance, and also shifts between his Cool and Broogus forms at times.

Trivia[]

  • Hurgus' Cool Form allows him to use the dangerous move "Splogenski-factor enforcement", which gives 2 random-selected opponents (Scrimmy or any Brongi in the current-travel-group) "Bogus Schnogerism". This stat effect temporarily sets all stats to 1% of their original values, and also turns Bippo into a nuclear potato that can't do anything until the end of the battle with Hurgus' second form.
